Deemed universities Vs Students in Tamil Nadu
Seems it is a rough weather for Eng. students in Tamilnadu Deemed universities, as their BTech degrees offered were termed unapproved by AICTE. I have lots of student friends who had invested a lot to get a seat in these univs. and they are happy abt this sudden vacation as they got their next semester started without any vacations
Though UGC has recognized these deemed univ's, AICTE has sent a notice stating that BTech/MTech degrees should get accredited by them by March 7th, and their fight is in the Supreme court. Now this has angered the student community when they came to know that their degree is not approved.
Being an Engineer i know what an AICTE approval means, just give an extra suitcase and get things done, without even a visit by an official to the college u can get an approval, just show some big lab and land space in papers and say they are coming up soon(like our Indian Highways/Flyovers). I would rather state that ANNA university's norms are much stricter than AICTE and i have seen colleges trying hard to wont to the strict norms of them.(that is how this deemed university status became an escape route for the colleges which didnt want to come under Anna university/AICTE control)
With elections around the corner in TN, i think any of the opposition parties will take this students issue for its political mileage, as there had been no communal violence for the past 5 years.
