Kurushetra-the venue of Mahabharata
One of my friends had come from Hyderabad, we both were busy playing Table Tennis througout the week at office, so to get rid of that fatigue due to work we decided to spend some time away from the city. We had to decide between Khajuraho and Kurusheta. Since we had only one day to spare we decided to drive to Kurushetra.
Started towards my friends guest house by 5:00 AM and from there took the route to ITO and then towards the GT road. After hitting the GT road, my foot remained firmly on the accelarator and we were flying @ 120 KM/Hr. After 1 hour of drive we halted in a way side Dhaba. It had an excellent ambience with lots of Ducks, Rabbits and Pigeons all around, they had also provided cots for taking short naps(for the Truck drivers), we utilized all the resources out there with a cup of tea.
Then again within the next hour we have reached Kurushetra. It is a small town 160 KM from Delhi. Though Mahabharata occured at the 120 KM diameter of this place, only Kurushetra is of utmost important because it was the birthplace of Bhagawat Gita. There is one big pond and surrounding is all the historic temples. So this was the cheapest tourist location i had ever been. Since all places were covered by walk.
A few yards away from the temple is the Sri Krishna museum, there we saw archaelogical findings dating back to the period of Mahabharta. It was a surprise to see there that most of the wood work and panch loha idols depicting Krishna were from Tamil Nadu/Orissa. We spent some 2 hours inside the museum as it was quite huge(with two floors). There was also a Panormic view of Mahabharta with lights display in the Science museum, which was quite attractive.
There was a beautiful Gurudwara near the pond, sat some time there with the good view of fishes in the pond inside the gurudwara. We thought of going to Jyotisar and Pehowa(see the link in the top for details). But as a god sent message the Jal Jeera vaala said that there is nothing much to see over there and changed our decision to return back to delhi.
So we returned to delhi by 5:00 PM.
